Studio Lab
The Business Behind the Story
A Semkhor Studio Lab – Part of the Digital Cinema Production Program
Television is changing — and this Studio Lab puts you right in the middle of the transformation.
The B$Z Studio Lab isn’t just about making content — it’s about understanding how content works, who it's for, and what it takes to make it succeed. Rooted in real-world broadcast practices and forward-looking media strategy, this lab offers a front-row seat (and a hands-on role) in building a show that merges legacy television with the speed, scale, and creativity of today’s digital tools.
Participants will develop the show, shape its strategy, and produce broadcast-ready episodes that are distributed in collaboration with Sarasota County’s Communications Department across Public Access, YouTube, and social platforms.

More Than Production — It's Strategy, Too
In this Studio Lab, you don’t just follow instructions. You help invent the process.
From day one, you'll collaborate on:
- Defining the B$Z brand voice and audience
Planning formats that work across broadcast, YouTube, and mobile
Identifying key trends and themes for editorial focus
Building strategies for visibility, retention, and long-term growth
Mapping distribution and promotion plans based on real-world media habits
You’ll learn how television shows are traditionally built — then reimagine that system for today’s attention economy. Your work will influence both what the show is and how it reaches viewers.
Hands-On from
Script to Screen
Once the vision is set, you’ll make it real. Every student will participate in the full content creation pipeline:
Research and editorial planning
Interview prep and production coordination
Scriptwriting and segment structuring
Camera, audio, and lighting operation
Editing and post-production
Motion graphics and branding
Promo development and platform-specific rollout
Final broadcast formatting and delivery
This is real training, not theoretical — and the content you produce will go live on official public and digital channels.
Understand the Past.
Lead the Future.
The B$Z Studio Lab doubles as a working classroom and a living media case study.
You’ll learn:
How traditional television production is structured
Why certain formats work (or don’t) on different platforms
How algorithms and social behaviors shape content success
How to use AI tools to brainstorm, script, edit, and publish faster
How storytelling evolves when platforms — not networks — set the rules
You won’t just make episodes — you’ll understand the forces that determine whether those episodes succeed in the real world.
Two Segments. Two
Real-World Tests
You’ll help produce two segments of B$Z:
- Training Segment: Work from a Semkhor-developed format to learn the entire workflow, from script to screen.
- Original Segment: Pitch your own topic, shape the format, and execute production under the same professional standards.
Both episodes will air via Sarasota County Communications platforms, giving your work a real audience and lasting visibility.
